Job Description Summary

PayPal’s Employee Technology and Experience (“ETX”) office is seeking a Senior Manager to work directly with the Legal and Global Safety & Security Technology Leader, business stakeholders, product managers, technical leads, software developers and project managers to deliver high-value business solutions in a fast-paced Agile environment. As a Senior Manager, you will have responsibility to deliver the product vision and roadmap through managing a transformative portfolio of technology projects and leading a team of Product Managers.

ETX is looking for an outcome-focused and solutions-oriented individual with deep experience working in a large, global corporate Legal Department in a technology enablement capacity. Legal domain experience of both process and technology including best practices and market available solutions is required. The ideal candidate will possess subject matter expertise or working knowledge in a number of the following the areas including, but not limited to, matter management, electronic billing, eDiscovery, contract management, patent management, employee stock management, legal document management, vendor management and managed services. Corporate experience with Safety & Security technology such as visitor management systems and closed-circuit television (“CCTV”) monitoring systems is also preferred.

Integral to the Senior Manager role is leading and managing a geographically dispersed team of product owners. You will have responsibility for motivating performance across the product owners and delivering timely, cost-effective solutions that address our internal customer’s needs. The Senior Manager must serve as a “player/coach” and both actively work on technology projects, directly and in a portfolio manager capacity, while also providing performance monitoring and coaching to uplift the team’s legal domain competency and day-to-day execution.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Supports and contributes to the Legal and Global Safety & Security Technology Leader’s product vision and strategy.
  • Builds trusted relationships with business stakeholders by demonstrating competency in their operations and an understanding of their needs and ultimately, delivering relevant solutions.
  • Communicates with business and technology stakeholders across all levels of the organization and tailors the information and messaging to the audience.
  • Manages internal customer relationships with our business partners and champions the employee and business stakeholder experience.
  • Responsible for delivery of the Legal and Global Safety & Security technology portfolio of projects.
  • Leads the product owner team and accountable for the team’s performance and ongoing development.
  • Leads or supports the product owner’s efforts during the product functional design process by leveraging and sharing domain knowledge of best practices and proven uses and/or deployment models of leading technologies in the Legal and Global Safety & Security areas.
  • Partners with technical leads, software developers and project managers to maximize the value of the product being delivered by ensuring the end-customer’s needs are documented, thoroughly understood and prioritized.
  • Collaborates with sponsors, product owners, project managers and software developers during sprint planning and grooming efforts to evaluate and prioritize competing needs.
  • Manages and makes visible the product backlogs and user stories to guide future product development whether the product and execution be PayPal’s responsibility or that of the external, technology provider.
  • Develops and maintains mechanisms to track and report on product performance and customer satisfaction post-launch to evaluate future investment.
  • Researches and maintains relevant knowledge of evolving best practices, industry benchmarks, impactful regulatory and/or legal changes, new features and/or capabilities offered and the competitive technology landscape to proactively engage and offer guidance to the end-customer’s future roadmap.
  • Leverages data insights to drive product roadmaps to align with the business, regulatory, security and strategic outcomes.
  • Leads or supports the product owner’s vendor management efforts including evaluations, compliance, procurement, negotiations and escalations.
  • Partners with the Legal and Global Safety & Security Technology Leader on budget management responsibilities.

Qualifications
  • BS degree or equivalent experience required, preferably in Management Information Systems or Computer Science.
  • 7+ years’ experience in large scale technology delivery (focus on SaaS), technical project management, vendor management, people management, budget management and business analysis.
  • 5+ years’ experience managing a team of product owners, functional and technical resources, including offshore resources.
  • Legal domain experience of both Legal process and technology including best practices and market available solutions is required; experience with Safety & Security technology is also preferred.
  • Direct, in-house experience serving in a technology enablement role within a Global Fortune 500 Legal Department is highly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Legal functions and supporting systems / providers (i.e., matter management, electronic billing, eDiscovery, contract management, patent management, employee stock management, legal document management, vendor management and managed services)
  • Expert knowledge of systems development life cycle (SDLC), including proven experience in implementing Legal software applications.
  • Ability to work in Agile, Waterfall and hybrid delivery models.
  • Agile product owner experience a plus.
  • Product Owner Certification (CSPO or Pragmatic Marketing) a plus.
  • Highly proficient in Teams, MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project.
