Position Description

The eDiscovery Specialist will support Civil Division staff manage a wide range of eDiscovery tools and workflows and will be tasked with providing 1:1 support on the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) processes.  The eDiscovery Specialist will help manage and maintain our existing tools by performing periodic systems testing, assisting staff in adhering to data hygiene practices and updating processes and guidelines as needed. The ideal candidate has demonstrated knowledge of the civil litigation practices, the legal hold process, and has had experience with at least one eDiscovery review tool.  

 

This role will report to the eDiscovery Manager and will support City Attorneys, section Paralegals, Public Disclosure Officers, IT staff, client contacts, outside counsel, and third-party vendors to ensure that eDiscovery processes run smoothly. This role will not manage their own caseload but will act as the subject matter expert and power-user for our eDiscovery tools and processes to provide technical support to litigation teams. 


Job Responsibilities

  • Act as subject matter expert in Nuix Discover, Microsoft Purview and other e-discovery and litigation tools to provide 1:1 support and drive forward eDiscovery projects and cases. 
  • Assist legal teams with data identification, searches, queries, collection, process, review, analysis, workflow and production of ESI and paper documents for administrative matters, investigations, litigation, and public records requests.
  • Administer matter management and legal hold processes, including legal hold notice distribution, reminders, escalations and closing using in-house technology and Microsoft Purview.
  • Solve basic technical issues, provide support, and escalate to vendor(s) and IT department as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures across the Civil Division.
  • Assist Civil Division staff in ensuring data hygiene practices are understood and followed.
  • Keep apprised of eDiscovery industry trends and current caselaw by conducting legal research and attending trainings.
  • Work with the IT department to conduct systems testing for new system features and upgrades.
  • Follow best practices for deliverables by performing quality control checks to ensure work product accuracy. 
  • Respond to and address incoming requests in a timely fashion.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and four years’ experience performing eDiscovery duties; or a certification from a nationally accredited eDiscovery training institution and five years related experience (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class). 
  • 2+ years of in-depth experience with eDiscovery tools experience, using at least one platform or database system, such as Nuix Discover, Relativity, Logikcull, Everlaw, Casepoint, Zylab, Disco, etc. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all phases of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM).
  • Proficiency with data hosting services (case administration, loading data into database applications, performing queries, preparing exports), such as M365 tools and applications.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation) with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff in a clear manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and operating systems preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Maintains high-quality standards, task ownership, and attention to detail in work product.

Compensation and Benefits – This position is part of a stepped salary program with an initial Step 1 placement ($37.10/hour). Advanced initial step placement may be considered under limited circumstances, but step salaries are not subject to negotiation.
Full Range: $37.10 – $43.34 Hourly
